How it works

Compress a PDF in three steps.

  1. 1

    Add a PDF

One file, up to 100 MB.

  2. 2

    Pick a level

Lossless changes nothing you can see. Balanced and Smallest re-save the photos inside.

  3. 3

    Download

You see the old and new size first. If the PDF can't get smaller, keep the original.

Questions

Good to know.

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on what’s inside. PDFs full of photos or scans often shrink a lot with Balanced or Smallest. Text-only PDFs are usually compact already, so the saving is small.

Will the text still be searchable?

Yes. Text and vector graphics are copied as they are, in every mode. Only photos are re-saved, and only in Balanced and Smallest.

Are links, forms and bookmarks kept?

Yes. They are part of the document structure, which is kept. Digitally signed PDFs aren’t compressed, because any change breaks the signature.

Which images aren’t re-saved?

CMYK images, images with special colour settings, masks and small images are left exactly as they are, so their colours can’t change.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The PDF is compressed in your browser and never leaves your device.

Curious what your files reveal?

Metvoro can also read the hidden metadata in photos, PDFs and Office files and explain it in plain language.
